JOB TITLE:
Land use Lead Consultant
LOCATION:
HYBRYD
Working from home or with clients, with the expectation to meet once a week with the LAFAN team if working full time.
Meetings usually take place on Mondays at M-SParc, AberInnovations and/or Canolfan Creuddyn in Llanbed.
We are trialling office space at M-SParc until the end of 2026 which gives LAFAN staff members the option to use it occasionally.
We also meet at various sites throughout Wales at the end of each quarter, where a contribution is made towards travel costs at that time. Travel rate is paid when visiting clients.
HOURS:
FULL TIME
This is a full time post (40 hours per week) where you can manage your own hours and holiday.
We are open to applications from those wishing to work 4 or 4.5 days per week.
We offer an extra day of holiday to recognise St David’s Day.
Members of staff receive an additional 5 days (pro rata) of holidays after 5 years of employment with the company.
SALARY:
Starting at £43,500 p/a depending on relevant experience.
We offer a standard NEST pension with a LAFAN contribution of 3%
Lead Consultants receive incremental increases per year up to £48,500 p/an after 3 years in post.

Zoe Pritchard, CEO.
Working closely with John Owen, Lead Consultant for Agriculture and Environment.
Whilst there is currently no responsibility over staff, our ambition as a company is to see that our Lead Consultants develop their own team over time.
SUMMARY:
The Lead Land Use Consultant will be responsible for providing strategic support on land use policies, agricultural land management, skills and experience in facilitating groups and planning land use transformation/diversification for a range of clients including rural businesses, community enterprises and public bodies.
You will support farmers, land businesses and public sector stakeholders with projects that include:
Adapting to policy changes such as the Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS)
Planning and developing land use strategies with objectives such as improving water quality, reducing the risk of flooding, protecting and enriching soils, improving biodiversity, managing nutrients efficiently...
Facilitate and support groups of farmers who want to manage land on a landscape scale.
Support businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, diversify their land use and engage with new markets.
Implementing new initiatives within Lafan for example producing biochar from dewatered slurry, responding to innovation contracts from the public sector.
Lead on opportunities to innovate in the sector.
Promote and improve awareness of agri-tech innovation.
You will lead land use analysis, provide practical recommendations, and develop sustainable strategies to support rural businesses. You will work with a wide range of clients including farmers, local government, corporations, and conservation organisations.
As well as technical and strategic skills, you will be expected to be able to evaluate the performance and financial impact of different types of land use.
We want to appoint a Lead Land Use Consultant who can communicate in Welsh and English.
