James Hughes, Consultant : A Glimpse into My Lafan Journey
April 2023 marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in my professional journey as I officially joined the dynamic team at Lafan. Interestingly, my connection with Lafan predates this official collaboration; I had the privilege of freelancing for them before taking the plunge into a more structured role.
Working part-time at Lafan, three days a week, has become a rhythm that works alongside my other entrepreneurial ventures. The beauty lies in the lack of a fixed schedule – the flexibility to adapt to Lafan's ever-evolving priorities and deadlines while balancing the demands of my other businesses.
The beginning of a typical Lafan week is the Monday afternoon team meeting at Msparc, where innovation is at the core. These sessions set the tone for a week of productivity and collaborative discussions.
My role at Lafan centres around projects that call on my business experience, particularly in the realms of supply chain development and the nuanced world of digital technology for businesses. It's a role that fuels my passion for tackling challenges head-on and shaping innovative solutions.
When I delve into desk-based work – be it crafting reports, designing business plans, scrutinising funding applications, or diving into online meetings – my home office in Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor becomes my working hub.
One project that has been a highlight of my Lafan journey this year is the 'Digital Platform Scheme for Gwynedd.' Drawing on my experience with food brands, particularly Bwydydd Madryn Foods (BMF), I had the privilege of mentoring Food & Drink and hospitality businesses. Together, we embarked on a journey to enhance their digital platforms, setting goals, exploring options, and devising actionable plans. The resonance of challenges and opportunities mirrored my experiences with BMF, adding a layer of personal connection to the project.
My time at Lafan has been a variety of experiences, and the diversity of working with different people, organisations, and projects has been what I have enjoyed most. Each day unfolds as a new opportunity, inviting innovation and collaboration, making my stint at Lafan not just a job but an enriching adventure.
