Being part of the team was an extremely valuable experience
My work experience period with Lafan was very interesting and beneficial for me as a student. I was given experience with every department of the company, this was especially valuable for me to evaluate what I could do as a career in the future.
During my work experience period with Lafan, I was able to attend many interesting events that were organized by the company. These events were celebrating the successes of the Arfor scheme.
I got the chance to meet and learn much about local business owners that benefited from the scheme. These events were an eye-opener for me in terms of the jobs that are available locally to me. Meeting the entrepreneurs that create these jobs was also a valuable and interesting experience.
Another element of my work experience that I enjoyed was working through the work packs. These work packs allowed me to work with all different departments of Lafan. I started initially with researching into suitable case scenarios for a developing project.
I then went on to work with the Lafan Creu crew. I proposed a new method of keeping order of their data structures and I researched into Business to Customer marketing. I was given an insight of how Lafan Creu uses automated emails in order to market products effectively.
The next day, I delved into a completely different field. I researched the use of Artificial Intelligence in the Agri-Tech sector. Afterwards i got to form potential questions for a feedback form for a client.
On my last day, I got to work with Lafan Addysg. This was an extremely valuable experience for me to research into effective methods and principles of teaching. Also I learned about methods of tying School work and real work together.
What surprised me most about my work experience period was the vast range of different things that the company offers and does. Everyone at Lafan was extremely welcoming and ready to offer a helping hand when needed. Everyone made me feel like a part of the team, something that I very much appreciated.
Having different things to work on every day really enriched my experience. I was included in many projects, no day was the same!
After completing my work experience with Lafan, I feel more positive about the work opportunities that are available here in North Wales. Seeing how busy the Monday morning meeting was proof that Lafan are a growing employer in the area that employ a lot of Welsh-speaking Welsh people. Having the experience of going to the Arfor events also made me feel more positive and aware about the work opportunities here in the area.
I would like to especially thank Geraint for allowing for this to happen, to Zoe for arranging everything and to Alun for the lifts! I would also like to thank everyone from Lafan for contributing to such an amazing week!
