Welcome to the Lafan team Helen!

When the opportunity to take Voluntary Redundancy came up in January, I decided to take the plunge and apply. Our idyllic house had come up for sale, back in my home roots of Carmarthenshire and I needed to be living nearer to my parents who have some age-related health issues.

In preparation for finding new work opportunities, I came across an interesting role at Lafan. Despite seeing an old advert on-line, a year later from when it was advertised, I decided to give them a call. I was greeted by a very hospitable voice in my native tongue who was enthused by my interest in the company. By the following Monday, I was having an informal chat with the Managing Director, Lead Consultant and the Office Co-Ordinator and within a few days an email had reached my inbox with an offer of employment, which I was delighted about.

Two months in, working 3 days a week as the Systems and Networks officer at Lafan, I am having the home/work life balance that I need to care for my parents. Lafan has given me that opportunity with the flexibility to care for my parents and have time for myself. My role at Lafan is thoroughly enjoyable and interesting, having already started implementing a new CRM system and working on varied projects from the North Wales Food & Drink cluster to the ‘Dyfodol Digidol’ programme. I am also in the process of gaining the ‘Cynnig Cymraeg’ accreditation for Lafan from the Welsh Language Commissioner.

Having lived and worked full time in Cardiff for almost 30 years, I’ve realised it’s time to take stock of my life and to do the things that are important for me and my loved ones. Working part-time, and moving home to the country, in the ARFOR area that Lafan supports, whilst also being able to care for my elderly parents is what my future holds for now.

Watch out for an update on how my role progresses with Lafan over the coming months! ~ Helen
